School Improvement Plan
Mission Statement:
Students will be prepared to be critical thinkers, effective communicators, and accountable members in a global society.
Target Goals:
- All students will improve their critical thinking across the curriculum.
We define critical thinking as students who synthesize, integrate information and develop conclusions.
- All students will improve effective communication skills across the curriculum.
We define communication skills as expression with clarity and focus in a variety of media.
Interventions:
- Classroom Intervention – Goal 1
Teachers will use a variety of strategies to facilitate student skill development in the areas of synthesis, integration of information and development of conclusions to include: Graphic organizers; project-based learning; brainteasers; Five Whys.
- Classroom Intervention - Goal 2:
Teachers will use a variety of strategies to instruct students to communication with clarity and focus using a variety of media.
- Communication Intervention:
School will develop a variety of means to inform parents and community of efforts and progress in School Improvement to include: School newsletter, class newsletters; open house; graphic organizers; personal website; base media resources; multimedia presentations; group e-mails.
- SHC Partnership Intervention:
School will develop a variety of means to involve parents and community in the students’ learning process to include:
Friday Focus; graphic organizers; yourhomework.com; personal web pages; brainteasers; Lodging/Culinary Arts projects; invite parents to classroom; parents observe projects; monthly newletters, parent/paraprofessionals as tutors.
- Technology Intervention:
Teachers will continue to develop means of preparing students for the future with improved and expanded means of using technology to include: Inspiration 8; Multimedia Presentations (To include Publisher, Word, Excel, PPT, Software from textbooks and other internet resources); graphing calculators, smartboards, SnagIt, Research; Infocus machines, COWS.
